BJP MP rubbishes daughter-in-law's torture charges

Raipur, April 1 (IANS) Senior BJP leader in Chhattisgarh Nand Kumar Sai Monday rubbished allegations levelled against him by his daughter-in-law and termed her "mentally disturbed".
Talking to newsmen here at his residence, the Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP and tribal leader rejected harassment charges by his daughter-in-law Hemanti Sai, claiming that she is mentally disturbed and under treatment at a mental hospital in Ranchi for past 10 years.
Sai was under tremendous pressure for past several days after his daughter-in-law accused him and her husband Arvind of torturing and harassing her in name of practising witchcraft, which is traditionally in use in state's sprawling poverty-hit interior areas.
"I am pained by a few media reports that I harassed my daughter-in-law in name of witchcraft, the allegations levelled by her are entirely baseless," Sai remarked. "I don't believe in any  superstition such as 'toni' (witchcraft)," he added.
He claimed that his daughter-in-law has track record of making unfounded allegations against him and his other family members. He said that charges against his family by his daughter-in-law had been before the local tribal society which would make its verdict later this month.
